Our ancestors left Sandwich some extraordinary streets. They were less considerate about where we’d park.
At 19 Alexander Close, that particular historical oversight is rather neatly resolved. Here is a modern four-bedroom detached house with two bathrooms, a driveway and garage, in an established, quiet cul-de-sac, around five minutes’ walk from the medieval town centre. Quite possibly as close as you’ll find with parking this straightforward.
First, a small confession. The owners have accumulated the belongings that come with enjoying a home. We’ve employed a little digital dark art to remove selected furniture and possessions from some photographs. Room sizes and shapes remain unchanged; the occasional editing oddity may appear. A viewing will provide the unedited version.
The house is comfortable, welcoming and perfectly liveable. As with many modern homes a couple of decades into life, you might choose to update certain finishes. There’s room for your taste here.
But the position deserves your attention first.
Beyond the rear garden, marshland opens into expansive views, bringing wildlife, changing skies and a sense of space that photographs can only begin to explain. We understand the land is subject to restrictions on development; buyers should confirm the precise position through their solicitor.
The rear garden is principally decked: less mowing, more sitting, entertaining and watching the evening sun. If a substantial lawn tops your list, this probably isn’t your house. If sunset over the marshes sounds a better use of your time, come and see it. A conservatory makes the outlook enjoyable beyond summer, too.
Driving through Sandwich for the photography, we went from its beautiful historic centre to the driveway almost before the conversation had moved on.
Five minutes’ saunter into town. Perhaps six minutes’ stagger home after a glass or two.
History on your doorstep. Marshland behind you. Rather good for the soul.
